Director's Message

Dear CCA Community, February was a busy and exciting month!!  The positive news is spreading about our award winning and highest achieving public school in Cherokee County. YOU are our biggest advocate to share your experiences for the rigorous education and climate here at CCA. Being a Patriot is being family. Our small class sizes, Core Knowledge Curriculum, Eureka math, and Core Virtues make us both unique and successful. Check out this month’s newsletter to see our awards and curriculum highlights!

Please share the news of our open enrollment for NEW students in grades 4K through 9th grade for next school year. The enrollment portal for students 4K-9th grade may be found here, but are also on the main page of our website via the Enroll Now button. The best way to guarantee a spot and not be on a waitlist is to go ahead and enroll them for THIS CURRENT school year. Have them drop by or schedule a school tour today! We have limited space in most all grade levels so have them get in touch soon!

We are also excited to announce that we have now been approved for 9th grade next school year by the Charter Institute at Erskine. We will be sharing more information with upper grades families and planning events later in the spring.

Coach Jefferies has helped transform and shape the lives of many in our county, state, and nation. What an excellent way to honor black history month by celebrating a person who has impacted many families across Cherokee County!  Thank you, Coach Jeffries for your words of wisdom and your commitment to shape the lives of many generations!

Core Virtues

February - Love of Country

Love of Country means being devoted to our nation—loving its ideals, honoring its heroes, respecting its past, and working hard for a just and noble future.

Teachers were encouraged to make good use of the February civic holidays (Presidents' Day – formerly Washington and Lincoln’s birthdays) and concurrent Black History Month to encourage attachment to, and a sense of responsibility toward, our civic communities. Black History Month offers teachers the opportunity to showcase the work of many African-Americans who have enriched our nation and fought for its betterment. If you missed any of the Martin Luther King, Jr. biographies in January, this month is a good time to round out that reading.

Finally, a word to teachers and parents:  Historically, American schools have been charged with helping to form the nation's youngest citizens.  A sense of the nation's history, both its triumphs and failings, heroes and heroines, prepares students for future challenges, and also encourages a shared sense of identity and belonging.  Classical schools, Core Knowledge schools, and others with strong American (and World) History programs continue this important tradition.  To remind us all, of why we tell the rich American story, we feature a link to E.D. Hirsch, Jr.'s important article, "A Sense of Belonging," which describes the ongoing need for the nation's schools to educate not just high-achievers, but good citizens.
