Director's Message

Dear CCA Community,

March was a busy and rewarding month for learning and recognitions.   The positive news is spreading about our award winning and highest achieving public school in Cherokee County. We are growing daily and already have over 120 new students starting their Patriot journey next school year!

YOU are our biggest advocate to share your experiences for the rigorous education and climate here at CCA. Being a Patriot is being family. Our small class sizes, Core Knowledge Curriculum, Eureka math, and Core Virtues make us both unique and successful. Check out this month’s newsletter to see our awards and curriculum highlights! Our classical curriculum is complimented by a focus on the "fine arts”. Our students have PE every day along with either music or art in grades 5K through 5th.  Students in 5th - 8th have the opportunity to take band. We also offer dance for students in 6th - 8th. Make sure to check out the article below of our recent band awards from the Carowinds Music Festival!

Please share the news of our open enrollment for NEW students in grades 4K through 9th grade for next school year. The enrollment portal for students 4K-9th grade may be found here, but are also on the main page of our website via the Enroll Now button. The best way to guarantee a spot and not be on a waitlist is to go ahead and enroll them for THIS CURRENT school year. Have them drop by or schedule a school tour today! We have limited space in most all grade levels so have them get in touch soon! r

We are also excited to announce that we have now been approved for 9th grade next school year by the Charter Institute at Erskine. We will be sharing more information with upper grades families and planning events later in the spring.

Science -  6th grade activity

science 6th

Sixth grade recently dissected owl pellets to discover the types of rodents the owl eats. Students worked with partners to look for bones such as the jaw, leg, skull, and vertebrae.

Students traveled to the Carolina Raptor Center the following week to see owls and other raptors and learn more about birds of prey.

Math -  1st Grade Easter Eggstravaganza!

Eggstravaganza

On March 27th, First grade hosted a parent engagement activity, an Easter Eggstravaganza.  Students had to figure out 5 clues using math skills to discover who stole the Easter eggs.  Luckily, we have some great mathematicians who figured out the culprit and Officer Johnson took him int custody!

Eggstravaganza

The Easter Bunny was able to visit and distribute the recovered eggs while parents and kids dyed Easter eggs and enjoyed refreshments.

March 2024 Core Virtues News

Core Virtue for March:   Faithfulness

In March our program turns outward in a dedicated way—focusing on the virtues that build community. Aristotle exalts the just and magnanimous man. Aquinas speaks of the person transformed by love. Moderns laud caring, empathy, and sympathy. All of these move in the difficult direction of otherness — getting beyond self and sensing the needs of others.

We focus in March on the virtues of compassion, faithfulness, and mercy. Each virtue has its own specific characteristic. Compassion is sensing the need of our neighbor and acting on his/her behalf. Faithfulness is standing by those we love and our communities. Mercy acts not only to end the distress of those in need, but extends to those who are weaker, those who have wronged us and, in strict justice, “deserve” less. Community service is the natural extension of faithfulness compassion, and mercy.

March is also Women's History Month.  Many of our recommendations feature female pioneers (like Anne Sullivan, Clara Barton, and Jane Addams) whose gifts of compassion and determination helped change the world for the better.
