Cherokee Charter Academy kicked off the fall season with an exciting and educational event for its young learners. On a sunny afternoon, Chartwells, CCA's school lunch provider, brought the farm to the school, offering first and second grader students a delightful outdoor Farmers Market where they could explore and learn about fresh, locally sourced produce.
The market was packed with colorful fruits and vegetables, including crisp gala apples, sweet potatoes, corn, carrots, blueberries, and strawberries. Armed with their "market cash," students had the opportunity to purchase their favorite items, giving them a hands-on experience of how a real market works while encouraging healthy eating habits.
But the fun didn’t stop at shopping. To inspire students to turn their purchases into delicious meals, each child received recipe cards to take home. These cards provided simple, kid-friendly recipes that could transform the fresh produce into tasty dishes for their families to enjoy.
The event, organized by Chartwells, aimed not only to introduce students to fresh, local foods but also to engage them in making healthier food choices. It was a day filled with excitement, learning, and anticipation for the new season—proving that at Cherokee Charter Academy, education extends well beyond the classroom.
As fall approaches, students at CCA are already reaping the rewards of the harvest, ready to cook up some seasonal delights at home with their families!
